Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the literatherapy program utilizing the narrative therapy for the upper elementary school graders on the reduction of academic stress and the improvement of self-efficacy. The processes of achieving the purpose of this study are as follows. The subjects of this study were 40 students of the 4th to 6th grade in elementary schools, who participated in an after-school program of a local child center. A pre-standardized test, utilizing an academic stress test and a self-efficacy test was conducted. We selected 20 students out of the 40 students, who were measured to have a high level of stress in the pretest and volunteered to participate in the program. They were assigned to the literatherapy program utilizing the narrative therapy. 10 students were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the other 10 students, to the control group. In order to test the effectiveness of the program, we applied the program - which had 12 sessions and took 80 minutes for each session - to them two or three times a week, from August of 2011 to September of 2011. No measures were taken to the control group during the same period. The post-test was done during the final session, and the follow-up test was done a month after the program ended. In conclusion, the literatherapy program utilizing the narrative therapy is effective in reducing the academic stress and improving the self-efficacy for the upper elementary school graders. And the effects remain after that.
